I'd like to say I understand your explanation, but I don't. :-) I cannot
tell
where you My Documents folder is, from your description. Save a screen shot
of
Windows Explorer with all the relevant folders expanded to show the
sub-folders,
save it as a .jpg file, and email it to me as an attachment, to:

All you need to do, though, is move the "My Documents" folder back to the
root of
C:\. After that, you can re-arrange the other files and folders however you
want
them, wherever you want them.

Yes I got the jpg's in your email. I have not been able to do any support
work
today, and have only just now gotten a chance to even look at the email, and
it is
past 11 PM. You seem to have a bit of a mess there, with multiple "My
Documents"
and "My Pictures" folders, some inside each other like a puzzle. For the
most part,
you simply need to move the folders and files around, but since My Documents
is a
"special" folder as far as Windows is concerned, we need to determine where
you
registered personal folders are, so as to find which "My Documents" folders
are
superfluous.

What would help would be to see the contents of this Registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

Click Start Run, copy and paste this line into the box, and click OK:
regedit /e c:\windows\desktop\folders.txt
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders"

That is all one line, with a space between regedit and /e, and between
folders.txt
and the "keyname"

It will create a text file named folders.txt on your desktop. Send me the
text
file, or copy/paste the contents of it into the body of an email, or into a
reply to
this post.

The export cannot possibly be that size if it is only the key asked
for.
I am snipping down to just that bit:

I followed Glen's instructions and pasted the command below in the Run
box. (one line)
regedit /e c:\windows\desktop\folders.txt
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders"

Folders.txt is 879 bytes.
Please try again.

Thanks
when i right click on the first foder, which is December 2004, that "MY
DOCUMENTS" is in and properties, there is 1.41 GB in all those folders an
sub folders and my documents! There are 5 folders in there.

The reason it is that big there are about 6 other files in there, and the
folders.txt is 12.4mb.

When i got it on the desk top, the next morning i booted i thought it was
going to crash, . I really don't want to go through that again, unless i dump
this one.. I have it burnt to a cd but i have to to one of my kids that has a
bigger drive and a better word processsiner, word pad doesn't handle it. I
was going to break it down into 12 pieces so i could email it to glee,????????
Is your info to put in different than that of glee's to get the folders.txt
folder on my desk top? I copy and paste all you have typed or can you put
it so it's wothout "s and commas etc, si i get it right? It is a mess!

Fix it. You have it backed up to CD.

Now create a new folder called MYDOX

Right-click the Start button and select Explore
(it will be much easier doing it that way)

Now open all of the MY DOCUMENTS trees
and start re-organizing.

Examine the folders and files, probable best starting from the bottom
of the tree and working back up.

Drag files (or whole folders) to MYDOX and then delete them from
MY DOCUMENTS
(hold down the Shift key while you delete. You don't want or need
them in the Recycle Bin)

When you are done, move everything back to MY DOCUMENTS
(optional), or leave them where they are.

If you switch to Details view, you can highlight a file,
scroll down, hold down Shift, and click another file
to select a consecutive group of files.

Hold down Ctrl instead and you can cherry-pick
(select files one-by-one, even if interspersed
with files that you don't want to move).

I have no idea why you are talking about a folder called December
2004. I am only talking about folders.txt and how you should get it.
My info is not different to Glen's.
I copied and pasted Glen's string, so it is exactly the same.
If you did the same, then you would get a correct, small folders.txt

No, you cannot alter it and have it without "s.
Why would you want to when it works as is?
It took me less than 10 seconds to do. I cannot see why it would take
you much longer.

This is where it's so confusing, the December 2004 folder is the lead folder
where my documents should be, my documents is burieed in the tree under that,
i copied and pasted it just like glee advised, from there of course i haven't
a clue, i would like to email this to someone, but i have to break it out
because it's 12.4mb, why i don't know? All it did was make the drive spin as
wordpad was the only thing that could read it on my system, I just don't
want the drive to go through that again, i've tried it 3 times just to read
it, not to redo the folder? Maybe it's just gonna have to stay this way, due
to my error?

You are referring to the folders.txt that is on my desk top and that i have
backed up tocd? Or are you referring to backing them up as they are on the
system from "starting" with the December 2004 file and all the rst under
that "which" one of them is my documents?

Maybe eventually we can redo this.?
thanks

It is not confusing if you stop talking about a December 2004 folder
and paste the one line command in the Run box as requested.
Folders.txt will NOT be 12.4mb if you follow the instructions
correctly.
This is the one line:

regedit /e c:\windows\desktop\folders.txt
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders"

Make sure it is correct, as you must be doing something wrong if it is
not a similar size to my folders.txt

Thanks
This is where it's so confusing, the December 2004 folder is the lead folder
where my documents should be, my documents is burieed in the tree under that,
i copied and pasted it just like glee advised, from there of course i haven't
a clue, i would like to email this to someone, but i have to break it out
because it's 12.4mb, why i don't know? All it did was make the drive spin as
wordpad was the only thing that could read it on my system, I just don't
want the drive to go through that again, i've tried it 3 times just to read
it, not to redo the folder? Maybe it's just gonna have to stay this way, due
to my error?

I have no idea why you are talking about a folder called December
2004. I am only talking about folders.txt and how you should get it.
My info is not different to Glen's.
I copied and pasted Glen's string, so it is exactly the same.
If you did the same, then you would get a correct, small folders.txt

No, you cannot alter it and have it without "s.
Why would you want to when it works as is?
It took me less than 10 seconds to do. I cannot see why it would take
you much longer.

when i right click on the first foder, which is December 2004, that "MY
DOCUMENTS" is in and properties, there is 1.41 GB in all those folders an
sub folders and my documents!

I am snipping down to just that bit:

I followed Glen's instructions and pasted the command below in the Run
box. (one line)
regedit /e c:\windows\desktop\folders.txt
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Shell

Folders.txt is 879 bytes.
Please try again.

What would help would be to see the contents of this Registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

Click Start Run, copy and paste this line into the box, and click OK:
regedit /e c:\windows\desktop\folders.txt
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders"

That is all one line, with a space between regedit and /e, and between
folders.txt
and the "keyname"

It will create a text file named folders.txt on your desktop. Send me the
text
file, or copy/paste the contents of it into the body of an email, or into a
reply to
this post.

If this is right,
regedit /e
c:\windows\desktop\folders.txt"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\S oftware\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ Shell Folders"

I tried again, and it would do nothing?

There must be a space after folders.txt
