Default Discontinued Support?

Is it true that Microsoft is planning to discontinue online advice and
support for older operating systems like Windows ME in mid 2005? Rumour or
true?
Should I just buy a new faster cheaper computer with XP now to avoid the
rush? Why does this thought make me angry?

No. See
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;LifeAn1
where you will See Microsoft state that support for Win Me will remain in
extended support until June 30 2006.

However I'm not aware that Microsoft currently provide any online support
for Win Me other than through newsgroups such as this one which is a peer
to peer support newsgroup with only very occasional input from Microsoft.
I would expect the Win9x newsgroups to continue to run for several years
but there will probably be some consolidation of those supporting Win 95,
Win 98 and Win Me into a more generic possibly smaller set of newsgroups
supporting the Win 9x operating systems.

As to whether you should buy another computer rather depends on the
problems you are experiencing with your present set up, your requirements
and the cash that you have available to spend, all of which are really
matters for each user to consider for themselves.
