MS Installer error

when installing MS Installer the following error message
is received: The MSIEXEC.exe file is linked to missing
export MSI.DLL:222

How do I correct this error and complete installation of
Microsoft Installer?

The message you are seeing is one normally seen when using the Microsoft
Installer and not when installing the installer and is the result of having
mixed file versions. The problem though is easily rectified by reinstalling
the Microsoft Installer.

KB 324638 (see below) includes instructions as to how to install v2.0 of the
Windows Installer including a link from which you can download a new copy.

Note that it is ESSENTIAL that you rename or delete all copies of msi.dll
before attempting to install the Windows Installer. The KB article explains
how to do this.
