Downloads not starting/finishing
Whenever I try to download anything above at least 1MB, in FireFox or IE, the
download just stops within five seconds of it starting. It just stops going (It doesn't say "Downloading 0 KB/S", it just stops period). I've installed, updated, and scanned with AVG. It found 30 Trojan viruses. I also cleaned out my spyware with SpyBot - Search and Destroy. I have looked in every possible place for help, and this is my last search. I don't know if it's a setting, problem from a virus, or what. It's definatly not my Firewall since this happens even with turning it off. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Well, you definitely need to make sure that you have all the malware
removed--with that many, there's a possibility that there are some that reintroduce themselves as soon as you restart, so be sure to run those scans repeatedly until they show all clear. You also need to make use of a couple more tools. Details in the Security article in my sig. Once you're sure malware has been removed, then you want to run IE Repair. (I don't know Firefox, but I would assume that with both Firefox and IE behaving similarly, fixing IE might fix whatever the underlying problem is (IE and Windows Explorer are inextricably mixed, and downloading is a function that involves both.) If IE Repair doesn't fix it, then force-reinstall IE by choosing Add Component and putting check-marks on everything that *is* bolded. A couple of other chores might help. Make sure your caches are cleared. Check the details in my Clean Boot article (also in sig) for instructions for removing the usual garbage files. Also make sure you have your caches set to a decent size. Too small a cache can affect downloads like this. If still no luck, post back. -- Gary S.
