How to upgrade from OE5 to OE6
Greetings people,
Could someone tell me how to upgrade outlook express 5 to 6? Do I have to uninstal the old version first or will the newer instal over the top? I have been looking around microsoft.coms site but havent been able to find the right area, there is either OE5 or OE6, nowhere about upgrading. Thank you chamkita |

OE is part of the IE package. You have to update to IE6SP1. It will =
update your OE as well (it will update whatever IE components you = already have installed, but if you want to see the actual list, be sure = to choose "Minimal or Custom Install".) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...e1550cb-5e5d-= 48f5-b02b-20b602228de6 --=20 Gary S. I have just come from the link you left for the other person and while there I couldnt find any information regarding things like the Address Book and files relating to it. Does the over-the-top instal retain files like these? regards Jane |

Yes, nothing is lost. But one should always assume that an installation =
of any kind, Updates, whatever, may cause problems. Always back up your = personal files before performing such procedures. You might also take note of my suggestions for maintenance procedures = and "Clean Boot" preparation for installations. Also, any = "malware"--malicious software" can really screw things up, so you might = want to take a look at my article on Security, too. Overinstalling/upgrading to a newer version will only update necessary =

Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to upgrade to IE/OE6 SP1.
It will take two (2) visits to upgrade/update completely. After installing IE6 SP1 and rebooting, return to Windows Update for additional post-SP1 patches for IE, OE and Windows. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE) chamkita wrote: Greetings people, Could someone tell me how to upgrade outlook express 5 to 6? PA, what do know of MS04-018 (KB823353)? Was it really pulled from
Windows Update? Can it be the cause of my occasional orderly crash to the IE Error Report Tool? It is uninstallable, I know. -- Thanks or Good Luck, There may be humor in this post, and, Naturally, you will not sue, should things get worse after this, PCR "PA Bear" wrote in message ... | Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to upgrade to IE/OE6 SP1. | | It will take two (2) visits to upgrade/update completely. Officially the vulnerabilities addressed by MS04-018 are not "critical" in Win9x (...): quote [FAQ section] Are Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, or Windows Millennium Edition critically affected by any of the vulnerabilities that are addressed in this security bulletin? No. None of these vulnerabilities are critical in severity on Windows 98, on Windows 98 Second Edition, or on Windows Millennium Edition. /quote Once listed, Win9x have since been deleted from the list of supported OSS at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en. Can it be the cause of my occasional orderly crash to the IE Error Report Tool? I doubt it. It is uninstallable, I know. Yes, and the proof would be in the pudding.
