I currently am using Windows 98 on my computer. If I
upgrade to Windows ME, will i lose the saved files that
are on my computer? Your response to my question will be
greatly appreciated. Thank you.

An upgrade is designed to retain your files, folders and most
of your OS configurations. However, having your important data
backed up is always a good idea, just in case.. You never know..

The answer to your SPECIFIC question is "Maybe".

If you are talking about Word documents, Excel spreadsheets,
baby pictures, etc, those are probably safe.

Email folders and the emails saved in them will probably
disappear on you, as will your Favorites and Passwords.

Finally, if you just happen to have a Full Version instead of
an Upgrade Version, and end up formatting the Hard drive,
then you would unwittingly and unintentionally lose everything.

That is why any worthwhile advice will always include
an admonition to "Backup First".

Even if it SHOULDN'T be absolutely necessary, it IS necessary.

Why do you want to upgrade to Windows ME. This is not advised by many
techies that I know. What does Windows ME offer you that 98SE cannot offer?
You will have to access MS-DOS through a boot disk. Config.sys will be
wiped clean each time you restart your machine. Windows Millenium was a
rushed operating system that does not even have a Resource Kit with it. Do
yourself a favor and if you upgrade from 98 then upgrade to 98 Second
Edition because this has a resource kit and lots of other benefits. 98SE
will support USB 2.0 while there is no support for USB 2.0 in 98 First
Edition. However, if you do update to Windows ME please do not blame me for
your troubles because you have now been fairly and fully warned. Have a
nice day! :
