Default communication stack

After receiving several "fatal error" messages and rebooting my computer, I
am now unable to connect to the internet or send/receive e-mail. I have made
several calls to my DSL provider, and they have been unable to help. After
checking all of my connections and settings and trying to reload Windows(Me)
and my DSL software, they have determined that my "communication stack is
corrupt" since I can't "ping out". Is there anybody who can give me
instructions on how to fix this problem? (I'm trying to avoid the $35 fee
for calling technical support if at all possible) I appreciate any help you
can give me!
