The BT Home Hub is a combined adsl modem, router, wireless access point,
internet phone (VOIP) and BT's digital TV service/ IPTV (not sure whether
that it the correct term to describe BT Vision).

When you say Modem and Router what it means?

The DSL modem is the device which handles the ISP connection. Mine is
external; most common in the U.S. Phone port on one side connects to
a wall jack, Ethernet port on the other side connects to any device
with an Ethernet port.

My WinMe computer has already Modem
working OK. and trying to connect the machine to BTBroadband Via
BTHomeHub Ver 2.o T9J3?
Do I need some more other device?

Internal modem? Unfortunately, that changes things, and I don't
really know what to offer next. What you are now describing sounds
less like a DSL issue, and more like a networking issue. Is this
BTHomeHub an Ethernet hub? I once connected two Windows ME computers
using a hub, and a dial-up modem in one of the computers. I was able
to get Windows ME "ICS" ("Internet Connection Sharing") to work with
that configuration.

AAH,

You still haven't answered my question. What EXACTLY does winipcfg tell
you about the TF3200. Until and unless you answer those questions there
is NOTHING I or anyone else can do to help you.

I have, at this time, absolutely no interest in the homehub or your
laptop. I am ONLY interested in the connection, or lack of, on your PC
running Win Me. Get that right and then everything else can follow on
from that. Your problem could be as trivial as the internet cable being
either faulty or not plugged in properly at either end.

Reinstalled the TF3200 driver.
No error in device manager under
Network Adapter there
1 Dial-up Net Working
2 TP-Link TF32oo driver

I run the BTHomeHub software it start
connecting to cable and after the test
the error is"Not Connected" and it ask
to select "Obtain an Ip address Auto"
This correction does not make any
difference it comes up again the same error
I have done many times restarts but no help.
If I open IE and type 192.168.1.254 the
error is "IE cannot open the search Page"

Sorry Mike - but couldn't resist.

But seriously, can't give like-for-like from my WinMe settings as it doesn't
have a LAN socket. It's working WiFi using a usb stick and my HomeHub is
version 1.0

FWIW - Winipcfg is as

Adapter Info. Gigaset USB Stick 108
Adapter Address 00 23 XX etc.
IP Address 192.168.1.89
Sub Mask 255.255.255.0
DGateway 192.168.1.254

and the HomeHub confirms the IP Address and shows the Me box as 'Active'.
The .89 matching the WinMe box IP Address as opposed to other active or
non-active devices.

Hope that confirms your expectations.

AAH,

Thanks, now we are getting somewhere.

Everything there suggests you have a working connection between your Home
Hub and Win Me. The Home Hub, or gateway is showing as being at
192.168.1.254 which is correct for a Home Hub, likewise the DHCP server and
that the DHCP server has allocated the Win Me box an IP address of
192.168.1.65. If you weren't connected you would have either seen no IP
address allocated or possibly an address in the 169.254.xxx.xxx range and no
entry for Gateway, DHCP or DNS server.

Now that we've established that your Win Me PC is connected to the Home Hub
we can try a few tests.

Firstly, from a DOS prompt what do you see if you enter at the DOS prompt:

PING 192.168.1.254

PING 216.239.59.105

PING www.google.com

Then open your browser and enter the following in the address bar and click
return:

http://192.168.1.254

http://216.239.59.105

http://www.google.com

Hopefully we might get a clue to the problem when we know what happens when
you try the tests I've listed above.

Best of luck,

Mike M

Spot on. AAH has now posted details from winipcfg and this shows that the
NIC has been allocated an IP address and shows the hub (192.168.1.254) as
the Gateway, DHCP and DNS addresses. You may need to chip in now as I
wonder if there is a Home Hub setting that is blocking access despite the
hub allocating the Win Me PC an IP address.

And mine whistles "Dixie" on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. D**n
clever these BT HomeHubs.

Very clever. I wonder what I need to do to get my Netgear DG200N to play
Land of Hope & Glory g. Perhaps I need to play. Not sure though about it
doing it only on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. I'll need to think more
about that! vbg

Isn't there a setting in IE Internet OptionsConnections that has to be
changed from modem to LAN or something? Just a thought.

Sorry for the top post.

Godfrey,

Thanks for that and is one of the reasons why I have asked first for some
test using PING and then the same tests using a browser however if IE was
configured to always use a dial-up connection I hope that AAH would have
mentioned that DUN was popping up each time he tried to use his browser..

AAH

"IC plus IP 100 10/100 fast ethernet"

is the one we are interested in. The other is probably a dial-up modem.
PPP being Point to Point Protocol which is used when making a connection
over a telephone's voice link.

I thought I had sent this earlier but instead it seems it went to my drafts
folder. I probably clicked the wrong button.
