Default New Opera v10.0 Browser Alpha release still supports Win 9x/ME

Hello:

With the last update of the Firefox v2.0.0.20 browser for Windows being
released on Dec, 18, 2008, Firefox will have no planned future updates for a
browser that supports Windows 98/ME.

However, Opera has released an alpha build of its new v10.0 browser on Dec.
3, 2008. The good news is that Opera appears to be continuing to support
Windows 98/ME as indicated by the systems requirements listed on the
following alpha download sites:

http://software.techrepublic.com.com...x?docid=874223

Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP

http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail...ws/945720329/1

Windows 2000/2003/9x/XP

Please note that these downloads are for an alpha release and should not be
downloaded for use by end users for regular use (unless they just want to
experiment).

Cheers,

Jerry

This is what I was told by an Opera support person:

"We don't test much anymore on win9x systems beyond 'does it
start', so we rely on volunteers and users to find and file any
non-obvious issues."

I like Opera, but find many sites aren't completely compatible.

Well if it works, don't fix it!

One thing we all know is 98+ worked well, it just lacked adequate system
resources. Especially when confronted with bloated software that is being
written nowadays.

Why give up on Firefox. Version 2.0.0.20 is more than enough, the
browser still function brilliantly, has more than enough features,
extensions then I will ever use. Along with Avast, Super AntiSpyware
Free, Spyware Blaster, Sygate Personal Firewall, CCleaner, HiJack
This, especially Auto Patcher for Win98SE, my computer is very secure.
Further revisions to FF 2.0.0.20 are, for me, irrelevant.

If you really want FF to be secure, don't use it in Windows; use it in
Ubuntu.

I use Firefox in Windows, Puppy Linux 2.0, Mac Jaguar 10.2.9, all with
2.0.0.20 updates. I am not an Opera fan, Firefox is the only browser
for me.
