Default File open details

Whenever I open a file open dialogue, it presents me with the filenames and
icons. I like to see the details, and select this most of the time, but each
time the dialogue opens, the view is reset to display icons and names only.
Is this a Windows property or have all application developers programmed
their file open dialogues to the same default? Is there a way to get all of
these to open with their view set to display the details?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Default File open details

Open Explorer (only one instance of it being open) and set the view to
details. Click on Tools, Folder Options, View Tab. Click the Reset All
Folders and Like Current Folder buttons. Holding down the Ctrl key, click
the X to close Explorer.
