Default detecting my internal modem

You do realise that you are posting to a newsgroup supporting those
running Win Me rather than XP?

Turning to your problem. You say that XP has not detected your hardware.
Open the Device Manager. Do you see your modem and sound card listed but
with a yellow exclamation point? If so then XP has detected the hardware
but the drivers haven't installed correctly. Alternatively do you see one
or more large yellow question marks alongside "Unknown Device" or similar.
If so then again XP has detected your hardware but doesn't have the
necessary drivers.

My advice would be that using another PC with net access go to the laptop
manufacturer's web site and look for the section containing Downloads,
select your model laptop and XP as your operating system and then download
the missing drivers. Transfer these to your laptop, perhaps using a usb
thumb drive, and install them.
