"High" DTR and RTS serial port lines
Hello,
Need a little help here please. Am running Windows ME on a laptop computer. I have a serial port interface connected to the serial port which "keys" a radio transceiver when either the RTS or DTR line is high. The problem is that the lines are always high and it always wants to key the radio unless I am running the software to use with the radio. That is , when I am using Digipan, Hamscope, MultiPSK or other similiar programs, everything works fine. But when I exit the program, the interface becomes keyed by the computer, which in turn keys the radio. What I need to know is how to keep the RTS and DTR lines low so they do not key the radio. Thank You Francis |

"High" DTR and RTS serial port lines
What I need to know is how to keep the RTS and DTR lines low so they
do not key the radio. See MS KB 285984 "Data Terminal Ready (DTR) Line Set to HIGH After Starting Windows Me" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=285894). The article states that a hotfix is available which includes an updated version of serenum.vxd. The problem is that Win Me is six months out of extended support so I suspect you are going to be out of luck if you contact MS support for the hotfix but it's at least worth a short. The link in the KB article will take you to a page giving the contact details for MS support in your locale. When Win Me was in support the call and hotfix would have been free but I've no idea whether MS will even entertain your enquiry let alone it being free. Best of luck. -- Mike Maltby Francis M fmauser at juno dot com wrote: Hello, Need a little help here please. Am running Windows ME on a laptop computer. I've just had a look on the net to see if anyone was unofficially posting the updated version of serenum.vxd. KB 285984 says the updated version is 4.90.3001. I haven't been able to find a copy of this version of the file but have found v4.90.3002 which was released with KB 297125 "PnP Serial Device May Not Enumerate on a Computer That Is Running Windows Me" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=297125). You may want to check download and see if this later version incorporates the fix that was included in v4.90.3001. The page http://www.mdgx.com/web.htm contains a link from which you can download a copy of v4.90.3002 (http://www.txsystems.com/downloads/meupdate.zip). -- Mike Maltby |
