Default Haunted House Screen Saver

Hi Shane, never tried that route as I don't have the Plus CD, but may be
worth a go for those who do. Not really into SS's since loosing Johnny
Castaway but now - thanks to the magic of computers - I've re-discovered him
again. See my response to Alan, later in the thread.

See (hear) you next year. Have good one.

Hi Mart, you ol', you,

Just looking here before getting out. A fwiw: I finally got XP to look
reasonably 9x-like by copying the ME Plus files for the 'More Windows'
theme, after which it appears in the Themes options. Rather than a similar
look to 9x when using the Classic view, you get identical to 9x - you can
even use PC Mag's Display Set and add the two-tone window and 3D Object
etc edges that seem hitherto no longer possible (which actually goes to
show that still Microsoft enable that degree of customisation but don't
tell their customers about it! I begin to suspect because it's not
supposed to be accessed gratis?).

Right. Me gone. You plenty good New Year!

No Plus CD needed for ME, Mart. It's in Desktop Themes assuming you install
it (along with Haunted House - only I *only* install the *More Windows*
theme). Look in Program Files/Plus and that's where the files are.

SS's - I use RAF ones, eg Lightning (made in Preston originally?), Hubble ST
(old ZDNet one, but the HST site provides them) or good ol' ScreenSmelter!
Still makes people think the monitor's knacked! ROFL!

Yeah, have a fab 2007 yourself!

Default Haunted House Screen Saver

Hi Alan:

As stated previoisly, I upgraded from WIndows ME to XP Home Ed.

In the ME directory C:\Windows\System there is no mystery.dll file.
In the XP Home Edition directory C:\Windows\System32 ,
there is the file Mystery.dll

If I put the old Haunted House screen saver file (mystery.scr.disabled) into
the directory C:\Windows\System32 and change the file name to
mystery.scr , I get an icon of a man with a hat above a missing head
kinda like Peter Sellers in poster of the movie "Being There", but
double-clicking
on it yields a black/blank screen.

In the old Windows ME directory (C:\Windows\System) there is no
mystery.dll file, but the file does exist in the C:\Windows\System32
folder.

I ma still not getting any Haunted House scrreb saver displayed.
Please help...

Thank you..

Mystery.dll appears in cab files, (Win_13.cab) but as I have never
installed Haunted House, I don't know what its use is or where it
should be.

If you read through all the other threads here, particularly those of
Mart, you may come to the same conclusion that I did, i.e. Haunted
House will not work in XP.

I don't use any of the "extras".
Simply found it by "googling" for this "suggested" item, proving once again,
that googling isn't always the best way to go.
Sorry about the "mislead".
Now I'll have to look for the "real McCoy"?

Harry.
