trying to reinstall win98se
And I keep getts a message SU0409 which tells me to disable virus detection
software by eliminating the lines that start the program from your Autoexec.bat or config.sys file. I looked into config and didn't see anything related to my Norton 2003, which is permanently removed from my pc. How do I get to see if there is anything hanging around in the autoexec.bat file? I open it but it is empty. thanks p.s. not real good with ms Dos commands |

Right click and edit.
Also look in the BIOS to see if there is an AV setting there that must be disabled. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "atravelino" wrote in message news:CpRmc.46142$0H1.4368564@attbi_s54... NEVER EVER DISABLE VIRUS SCANNING SOFTWARE!!
Try updating your virus scanner and virus scan your PC. Try using Lavasoft Ad-aware (www.lavasoft.de) to find any ad-aware. The message telling you to disable your virus scanner may be a virus Norton hasn't detected. -----Original Message----- And I keep getts a message SU0409 which tells me to disable virus detection software by eliminating the lines that start the program from your Autoexec.bat or config.sys file. Bad advice--you always disable the AV program when installing the Windows
operating system. You also have to look in the BIOS and if present, disable the AV there. To enter the BIOS, watch the boot screen and press the key indicated to enter setup. Once there, look at the screen for navigation instructions. -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "Dave" wrote in message ...
