Default Trying to change jumper settings-Whole computer no longer works

Thanks for the advice. I tried replacing the video card, and still
nothing. It won't boot to Floppy, and nothing will come up on the
screen. I will play with the drivers later.

That's not a good sign, if the screen is blank even using a Startup
Diskette! You shouldn't need a hard drive at all to boot that-- it's all
BIOS, the Video Adapter, the monitor & the floppy!

But I suppose having the hard drives connected incorrectly could somehow
find a way to mess things, especially if you have bent pins. Maybe try
to boot the Startup Diskette w/o any hard drive plugged in to anything.
Are you sure you've got a proper Startup Diskette...?...

Get a Startup Diskette from
http://www.bootdisk.com/ , if you don't already have one from "Control
Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Startup Disk tab". Take either one that
applies to your system. Test the Startup Diskette. Put the diskette in &
turn on the computer. Put in a CD and "DIR" the CD. That is, "DIR X:",
where "X:" is the CD-ROM letter. It will say which letter is the CD.
(Note: It may be necessary to enter BIOS Setup & set it to boot the
floppy drive above the hard drive.)

Was there anything on the monitor BEFORE you began all this work? I
don't think you've said-- & I've copied all your posts below...!...

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
should things get worse after this,

| Both hard drives are Quantum Fireballs. ONe is 13GB, and the other is
| 5GB. I have it hooked up like I thought it was before, and it still
| won't boot. How to you clear the memory? I am working on an old
| Gateway 450, and am using its original hard drive (The only one I want
| to use), and one from another old Gateway, also a Quantum Fireball, I
| believe.)
|
| Even if the jumper settings were not correct, couldn't I still see the
| bios boot on the screen?
|
| I did use a WD Chart for jumper settings, and it seemed to work. The
| chart on the hard drive is a bit confusing, but I could try to use
| that. I am not positive how I got it to work before. When I was
| messing around in there, I noticed that some of the juimpers that I
had
| never used were bent. I do not think they were touching, but they
| might have been. I pried them apart before trying my last boot.

| I had a computer where 98 was installed on a small hard drive, and was
| using the bigger hard drive for files. I had to reinstall 98, and
| decided to move everything to the bigger hard drive. I backed up my
| files, then opened up the computer, disconnected the power and data
| cable from the small hard drive, and changed the jumper settings on
the
| big hard drive to what the sticker on the hard drive said was
"Master."
| I plugged the computer in, it booted on it's own, but nothing, not
| even an error message came up on the screen. I tried not havingn a
| jumper in the hard drive, replacing the video card, replacing the old
| settings, but nothing works. I tried not to touch anything else in
the
| computer, although some plires got a little ways down the heat sink,
| but I stopped them before they touched the processer. I was not
| grounded, but did not feel any static electricty. It seems weird that
| not even the BIOS will come up. Did I breaky my (Old) comptuer
| somehow, or is there a fix?

Do you get a POST beep? If not it's probably motherboard related, what type
of MOBO and CPU. Couldn't hurt to reseat memory and CPU and try to boot
with just the video card installed.
