Log on Password help
My friend is trying to log on his computer and gets a
welcome log-on screen. The user name shows as default and the cursor is in the password spot. He did not set a password on his computer and can not get logged on. His mouse will not work and the only thing he can do is type in a password (which he has no idea what it might be) and hit the enter key. The computer keeps going bnack to the same box. Any ideas that I can relay to help him I have done everything I know of. Thanks in advance. |

Log on Password help
Tell your friend to click either Escape or Cancel to get access to the PC and
then carry out the suggestions that follow below including to delete the *.pwl file for the username concerned which will be in the Windows folder.. See MS KB 152104 - "How to Prevent a Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me Logon Prompt at Startup" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=152104). Basically you need to change to using Windows Logon in Control Panel | Network. Then when you next log on don't enter a password (leave blank) and click OK. If you've already allocated a password logon and then delete or better rename the password file in the Windows folder - this is a file whose name is your logon name with a pwl extension. Don't click Cancel or Escape as this will mean that you don't log on and are instead what is called the Default user which means you won't be able to save passwords and have access to certain features. --?
