Default direct connection to laptop

I am using Win/ME desk and Win 95 laptop. They are connected together with a
Laplink cable at LPT1. The problem is the desk PC can not see the laptop
anymore. Settings have been changed somewhere. What all has to be setup?

P.S.
The protocall. network, and client are set the same at both machines. The
port resourse setting are different. does that matter?
Is there any where to get free live teck help?
