Two possibilities. One, go to a web page that will make the Java icon
appear next to your clock. Right click on it and go to Java's Control
panel. Then on the General tab, delete the Temporary Internet files or
Two, download CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com (free) and run that
to get rid of them.

If you are using any version of Sun Java that is prior to JRE Version 5.0,
then you are strongly urged to remove any/all versions that are prior to JRE
Version 5.0. There are vulnerabilities in them and they are actively being exploited.

Therefore, it is highly suggested that if there are any prior versions of Sun Java
to Version 5 on the PC that they be removed and Sun Java JRE Version 5.0 Update 6
be installed ASAP.

http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

1) Dump the contents of your IE cache -
Start -- settings -- control panel -- Internet options -- delete files

2) Dump the contents of the Mozilla FireFox Cache { if you use FireFox }
Tools -- Options -- Privacy -- Cache -- Clear

3) Dump the contents of your Sun Java cache -
Start -- settings -- control panel -- Java applet -- cache -- clear
or
Start -- settings -- control panel -- Java applet -- general -- settings --
delete files

4) Re-scan your system using your AVG software.

Hello Dave:
I have JSE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6 installed. Is that allright, or
must I also replace it with your suggested version?

Harry.

No....I use the same as you. As long as you have the latest version
5.0, Update 6 installed (with no others), you are fine.

I have JRE 5.0 and JRE 5.0, update 2, 4 and 6 listed in Add/Remove.
Should I uninstall all but JRE 5.0, update 6?

Thanks,

Yes. For some crazy and inexplicable reason Sun choose not to uninstall
the previous vulnerable version when installing an upgraded JavaVM. Shows
how little interest Sun appear to have in the security of their users'
systems. There are many users who have JRE 5.0 update 6 installed who are
blissfully unaware that they also still have the very vulnerable and
frequently exploited Java JRE1.4 version present on their systems.

I don't have JRE 1.4 on my system (add/remove), just four instances of
JRE 5.0.

At the risk of repeating myself g Yes, you should uninstall ALL versions
of Sun Java OTHER than the most recent.
