Default Internet connection lost, but LAN still OK

My home computers are connected with a Netgear Router on a high speed cable
connection. Recently my stepson was messing around with the innards of one
of my computers. He was scavenging a modem from it. He mistakenly removed
the NIC card, then replaced it, and removed the phone modem he was looking
for. However, now this computer cannot connect to the Internet; but can
still connect to the other computers on the Home network. Is it possible
that the Network Card is damaged so that it cannot connect to the Internet,
but can still connect to the other computers on the Home Network? Is there
something I can try to get it connected?
