Default Freezing and More

Hi guys,
My computer has just done the oddest thing(s).
While in n/g it just froze; wouldnt let me ctrl+alt+del either.
Since then I have re-booted and run all obvious adaware and
virus scans etc.
I went to defrag too and it really spat the dummy there. First it
sort of stopped then the screen went 'drippy' for want of better word.
Have come back to n/g 4 times and similar happens.
I dont think I have done anything out of the ordinary lately.
Last night I downloaded a little utility which adds the ability to right
click on any folder and drop to a dos-box.

Woe.........
While writing this I just got taken to a BlueScreen with this msg:::

Exception OE at 0028:00000004 in VxD - - -
This was called from 0028:C14B11AE in VxD NVCORE (01) + 00011D5E
then it said I may be able to continue and here I am.

Help

regards Jane

Hi again,
I am now at pams house because mine has obviously got a problem.
Since I posted from my house an hour ago I have had to shut down 10
times plus.
I get about 3 to 5 mins and it freezes up with no access to ctrl-alt-del.
It doesnt matter where I am now in the computer (on mine) it just freezes.
Talk about timing, pams gets fixed and mine goes on the fritz.

Now, there were other things I did yesterday that I just remembered.
I took the fans out and replaced one. While they were off I used a soft
brush to clean tons of dust and etc. I cleaned absolutely everything
everywhere, including ram, cards, board, anything that was in the box.

Boy, this couldnt have come at a worse time.
What do you guys think, am I in real trouble?

At the moment my computer is disconnected from the power, I will be home in
half an hour and hope that I can get into this group otherwise I will come
back here to pams tonight for any advice.

thank you.
regards Jane

What fan did you replace and why?

You may have installed it blowing out
when it should be blowing in, or vice versa.

While they were off I used a soft
brush to clean tons of dust and etc. I cleaned absolutely everything
everywhere, including ram, cards, board, anything that was in the box.

Please tell me that you did NOT vacuum the little piles of dust !!

Boy, this couldnt have come at a worse time.

Take each RAM stick out and put it back in again.
Same with the cards. Make sure that all of the power connectors
and data cales are securely attached.

Make sure that the case is on properly and that the keyboard and mouse
are secure in their sockets.

nvcore.vxd is a Windows system file used for your video adapter. Try =
uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers.

Could be due to corrupt video drivers.

Is the fan running and blowing in the proper direction.

I hope you kept yourself grounded and the soft brush didn't build up =
any static that could harm a component. The best way to clean dust is =
with compressed air from a can using short bursts. Air compressors can =
cause damage as they can/do build up water in the tanks which can be =
sprayed onto the components. If those components aren't dry when the =
machine is returned to power, say bye bye.
Even though you haven't mentioned if you used the brush alone or not, =
hopefully a vacuum wasn't involved. Vacuums are notorious for static =
buildup.

Boy, this couldnt have come at a worse time.
What do you guys think, am I in real trouble?

Let's hope not.

Hello Hugh,
I am actually at my computer but I dont know how long for.
Answers to your questions.
1)I replaced a very small fan (on cmos I think) that had been ceased-up
for over a year.
I took the main fan off of the Heatsink above the AMD chip because it
was as noisy as Kids, and pams computer bloke said he would spray it
with some special stuff when I come back to pick up her comp.(yesterday).
No, no vacuum cleaner used. I took a very delicate artists brush and brushed
over absolutely everything...... it was filthy. Behind the fan on the
heatsink over
the main chip was caked in muck.
(ps, I can believe I am typing, I have been on comp for over ten minutes.)
I have been using the Back-Up utility supplied with windows to back up
important things, of which I have made a folder on my E:drive to keep them
in.
I have a problem regarding finding where Mozilla Firefox keeps its/my
Favourites,
do you know where Hugh?
As I told gary once, Nothing gets downloaded or placed on my C:drive, but I
was in error as I have placed Mozilla on it under Program Files.
I have looked flippin' everywhere for the Favourites Folder for it; I really
dont want
to lose the content as there are over a hundred sites that I have collected,
all relating
to learning the computer.

Also, when I got home just now, I went into Explorer (for backing up) and
the screen was
going around like the vertical control on an old telly.
I am in trouble to an extent arent I hugh....... I really hope you guys
can help me out.

regards Jane
better sign off before it freezes again.

Hi all,
Just a quickie while I'm still online,
I found the 'Bookmarks' folder for Mozilla and
have placed it and all its contents in a special folder
on the Edrive.

nvcore.vxd is an NVidia video driver file. I assume you have an NVidia-based video
card, and either:
-the video drivers are corrupted and need to be reinstalled,
-the video card, or onboard video as the case may be, is poorly seated or damaged,
-some other part of the graphics sub-system is damaged.

Was the fan you replaced on the video chipset?

Start by identifying your exact display adapter, then download and install fresh
drivers for it.

You cannot do stuff like that and continue to use the computer
and expect your components to live through it.

Especially the CPU. You may already have damaged the CPU.

Is the heatsink fan back on now?

Hi Hugh,
I think you are right, I have damaged something somewhere.
But first, why would taking the fan off and replacing it damage
anything, especially the CPU?
Since I mailed you last, I have been shutdown many times.
I did what you said and took the Ram out, but when firing the
computer up after re-seating the Ram I didnt even get a POST
TEST beep.
I took it out again (gently cleaning it again) and then I got a response but
I had the most ridiculous looking desktop ever.
It was as if it was in safe-mode but it wasnt.
The next time I booted up it took me to Dos screen with Safe Mode already
highlighted and said something about "because I windows had not properly
loaded last time I would have to go to safe-mode".
I have had 6 reboots since and finally have a desktop similar to what I am
used to.
When I put last post in it was surely lucky because it froze just after I
clicked "send".

What have I done Hugh?
How will I check to see what ever may or may not be the issue?
This couldnt have come at a worse time as I am taking a course in 9 days.

Help!

regards Jane
