Where can I download the Updates/Patches to use when I reinstall W
Now that MS has pretty much ceased supporting WinME, where can I download the
updates/patches? Once a year, I like to reformat my drive on the laptop and reinstall WinME, which now leaves me vulnerable, as I have no patches/updates to reinstall! My laptop is a Pentium 266, so XP or Vista is out of the question, and I cannot afford a new laptop, nor could I justify the expense if I could as I only use it for Internet and Word Processing. Please point me to any link here that has the patches available for download. I thank you all in advance! -James |

Where can I download the Updates/Patches to use when I reinstall W
Now that MS has pretty much ceased supporting WinME, where can I
download the updates/patches? James, The same place that you always have. By either going on line with the system and visiting the Windows Update site or if using a different system by visiting the Windows Update Catalogue (http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp) and the Microsoft Download Centre (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/) and downloading the patches from there. If using the latter routes you can save the patches to disk and then burn them to a CD for use whenever you require them. I'd recommend you start by visiting the Windows Update Catalogue and have a look at what is listed there for the Windows Millennium operating system. -- Mike Maltby WUBS wrote: Now that MS has pretty much ceased supporting WinME, where can I download the updates/patches? Where can I download the Updates/Patches to use when I reinsta
When I go to the download site, even restricting the search to Windows
Millennium Edition, it gives me hundreds of results that don't have to do anything with Windows ME but many other Microsoft Products. Furthermore, in the list there are very few downloads for ME, not even a single Service Pack. Does anybody know what the reason is and how I can get the Service Packs for ME? My ME System is not on the internet so I have to use the download service. even a single Service Pack.
Well that's no surprise since no service pack was ever released for Win Me. My ME System is not on the internet so I have to use the download service. Rather than use the Microsoft Download Centre use the Windows Update Catalogue (http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...en/default.asp) which is a site that forms part of the Windows Update site but intended for use in the circumstances you describe. That is it allows users to download patches to another PC running say XP and then transfer them to the off-line Win Me PC where they can be installed. The Windows Update Catalogue currently has 64 critical patches for those running an English version of Win Me (not all of which are required due to more than one browser version being included), 9 other patches and 75 multi-language updates. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Windows WarumWolf wrote: When I go to the download site, even restricting the search to Windows Millennium Edition, it gives me hundreds of results that don't have to do anything with Windows ME but many other Microsoft Products. Regarding 'Service Packs' for WinMe, WarumWolf asked :-
Does anybody know what the reason is ... ? You already had part of the answer embedded earlier in your post :- ... MS has pretty much ceased supporting WinME But also be aware that MS never issued 'Service Packs' as such for WinMe. However, MVP Gary Terhune has made a couple of update CD's available, see below :- snip .... My Updates CDs are now ready to go. One is a copy of the Security Updates CD from 02/04, the other contains everything since, with a few minor exceptions. No IE 5 or 5.5, only IE6 SP1. Good for Win98, 98SE and ME. Anyone interested should email -- Gary S. Terhune MS-MVP Shell/User www.grystmill.com /snip Give Gary a call, he may be able to help you. Mart "WarumWolf" wrote in message ...
