can't start ME,gray screen in safe mode

Just got computer back from tune-up.Had troubles updating to IE6.finally got
it to download.Thought it was kosher,but did defrag and had to turn it iff
with button.now have gray screen in safe mode.errors: 1.xms cache
problem2.tells me to install new hardware ,when there is none3.SUReg Create
key failed. its a compaq5004ca with ME,no disk for windows ,came
preloaded.HELP PLEASE!!! ONLY SEEMED TO BE PROBLEM AFTER MY SON PUT MSN
MESSENGER ON.

I used to be one of the great unwashed that for ever critisised Microsoft.
However, the update centre is now superb. Definitely one of the best sites
on the net. There should not have been any trouble with this procedure.

After IE6 installed you really should have restarted the machine. I'm sure
there would have been a message box that asked you to restart. Doing a
defrag before a requested restart is not going to help your machine work
properly.

Try opening up the box and firmly squeezing all the cards and stuff into
place. Sounds to me like your "tune-up" person may not have lodged the bits
in properly. They're probably just a bit loose.

Compaq are a very good make. I, proudly have one myself. Mine is an old
Persario 7470.

no disk for windows
came preloaded.

Sadly I run 98SE so I can't tell you exactly where to click when your
machine starts back up again. However, your hard disk will contain cabinet
files and you will be able to create a ME disk. I'm sure that somebody here
who is familiar with ME will instruct you how to do this.
