Default Need Help with registry

my old computer is running Win 98, this morning when I started the computer
it could not find system.ini, so I used regscan /restore command to restore
it to an ealier date which is before I installed Norton Antivirus, now when
I start the computer, it'll stop to tell that norton device file cannot be
found, registry or system.ini refers to it. and I can't reinstall Norton
because the old version is still exists. how do I clean up this mess? please
help. thanks.

Can you bootup in Safe Mode and get rid of Norton? Then run a registry
cleaner. Norton commonly causes problems and should be avoided.

Hi

Does this problem relate to Win XP? If not, try a Win 98 NG.

Do you mean Scanreg /Restore? Uninstall Nortons and then re-install it.

If uninstalling NAV as suggested by Jeff fails to work, then go here and
download/run Rnav2003.exe. It's a removal tool for Norton AntiVirus
5.0/2000/2001/2002 or 2003.
Start here for info:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...av&svy=&csm=no

Scroll down and click on the + next to: "To download and run Rnav2003.exe" for info
on how to use/run it and dl'd link.

Search your hard-drive for "NORTON SYMANT" (no quotes). Delete all files
found.

Backup the registry then search your registry for NORTON and SYMANT
(separately). Examine each registry entry. If it is part of a CLSID or
TypeLib, delete the CLSID or TypeLib. Otherwise, if there are other values
relating to other software just delete the value itself. A registry cleaner
would be recommended if you're not sure.

Then re-install Norton.
