Indeed I did.........I had WinMe installed with OE5, and I was having a lot
of "download speed" issues and tried upgrading to OE6, which didn't help any
of course, it was just something to try.........so then I re-installed WinMe
and the "download speed" issues corrected, but I was stuck with OE6, and it
has been acting so flaky I'm tired of it and wish things were like they were
before..........

Reinstalling WinMe over IE6 or OE6 causes problems. I suggest posting in
microsoft.public.windowsme.internet and tell them the whole story, including
the reinstall of WinMe over OE6.

Such symptoms are frequently the result of mistakenly attempting to
reinstall ME over itself without first reverting back to IE5.5 - the
resulting 'Version Soup' is almost impossible to repair, and the only sure
way known is to completely remove IE and then reinstall whichever version
you require.

Instructions for this process are here
http://www.crashfixpc.com/ReInIE.htm

Please post back if you need more details - preferably before attempting the
process!!g

Default Go from OE6 back to OE5?

Apparently the answer to my original question is "NO".

Thanks for the new information, but I do not wish to post to another
newsgroup. In fact, portions of my posts in this thread are already being
cross posted to another group, a practice of which I do not appreciate.

Apparently there are methods whereby the downgrade might be accomplished,
but they are complicated and lengthly and still may not work, so I now
prefer to just reformat the HD and start over again. I would like to know
if it's possible to save my existing Outlook Express 6 email folders (which
were originally created in OE5) and have them still work when I get OE5
installed again.........and if so, what are the filenames I should save,
and/or the procedure to export them.

TIA for any assistance,
Vaya con Dios,
Chuck, CABGx3

Before you do a format, read this info about how to backup/restore messages,
settings, etc. in Outlook Express. Version 5 and 6 use the identical format
so the info applies in both cases (since you will have OE5 on your new
install of WinMe)

I began the crossposting so you'd get the help you need. You may not
appreciate it but yours is a Windows problem, not an OE or IE problem, CLR.
MVP Noel Paton's post in this thread points you to the only known method to
resolve the issues you created by reinstalling WinME without having first
uninstalled IE6 SP1.

Good luck.

And all because the OP chose to reinstall Win Me over itself rather than
follow the advice he was given to reinstall his network
connection/drivers. He never had any hard disk problems.
