Default For command line and batch file experts, and "no DOS sound" update.

Hi gang,

First, in case anyone cares, an update - I like giving
updates as a way of letting people who helped me whether
their efforts were for something or nothing.

You may recall some "can't get DOS sound" posts about 6 weeks
ago or so... I ****ed around with about 25 Creative driver
and customization files, making a little progress but never
getting 100% success. In the end I said **** it and wiped the
drive clean.

I now have DOS 100% sound running on my 14.5 yr old machine -
I had to do it the brutal way, wiping the drive, installing
DOS 6.21, adding partitions, and running the DOS setup for my
card. It was THAT easy - once there was no Windows or
anything else on the machine.

Now, getting some of the games to play is another matter...

Anyway, again, many thanks to those who helped.

+++

Now to the "probleme du jour".

I'd like to prune my newsrc file(s) since as you know, many
groups get 10 posts a year, if that. Others get 30,000 posts
a day, but those are easier to avoid and there's a /lot/ less
of them.

I have tried at least two dozen text processors including
Ultra Edit etc., and no one will do this, i.e. remove all
lines containing a string of numbers lower than, say, 200.

It could be done manually, by doing a search 200 times, and
deleting each line manually, but I don't think ANYONE could
live through THAT experience - certainly I could not.

It just occurred to me that if I replaced all the tabs
between group name and # of posts with a comma, I could
POSSIBLY somehow do this in a spreadsheet program, but I have
used a spreadsheet MAYBE three times in my life. Still, any
suggestions about that would be welcomed as well as an
alternative.

Still, if any of you are brilliant enough to think of a
command line or batch file which would take the following
(these are the first 25 groups my provider carries):

0 65
0.akita-inu 119
0.alaskan-malamute 46

Try "WinVi" text editor.
It allows all sorts of advanced edits: hex, bin etc.

I don't know what you mean, and I don't have £5 to give you.

Also, don't top post and learn to snip.

So do many others I have used, but I certainly don't mind
checking out another one. This not a bin or hex problem though.

It's only been half a day but I think it'll be spreadsheet time
for this one.
