Windows 98se cannot see DVD drive
I have a dual boot system consisting of win98se and windows xp. Presently I
am using an IDE switch box to use the system with that has a cd burner for 98 and then I use the dvd burner for xp. The reason I do this is because when I boot the system with the dvd drive there isnt even a drive recognized for it in the device manager. I had created a system from scratch with 98 and it DOES recognize the dvd drive just fine. So my problem is why doesnt it with the partition that I have already installed on my system. Is there a system file missing or corrupted. I appreciate any thoughts, ideas and responses. |

Windows 98se cannot see DVD drive
First thing I'd do is go into Safe Mode, then into Device Manager and remove
ALL drives, ALL controllers, and the System device named PCI Bus. While you're there, look for duplicate entries -- *exact* duplicates. Make a list of any such, including exact name and how many duplications, to post back for further advice. Then restart your system and let it reinstall the controllers, drives, etc. Will take at least one reboot after controllers are installed. -- Gary S. Hit F8 while booting and go to safe mode... in device manager delete all instances of optical drives... any cdrom or DVD there should be deleted. now reboot and hopefully it will be detected properly |
