Disk - Resource Conflict
System: IBM Thinkpad 600, running WIN 98SE.
Problem: When the system is running with no applications and virus scanner turned of core kernel processor usage varies from 65% to 70%. Possible cause: Looking in the device manager, three disk controllers are listed. The Intel 82371 AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE controller has a yellow bubble with an exclaimation mark. Under properites for this controller it says "Version 01 - Device causing a resource conflict Code 15) . Also listed are two Standard Bus Mastering IDE Hard Disk Controller. Under properties it shows that both of these devices are working poperly. Note the system has only one disk drive. When trying to use the Hardware Conflict Troubleshooter, it hangs on window that has the first question. There is not indicaton of any disk activity. The first winow just stays static. Questions: What should be core kernel usage be in an idle state? What can be done to get the Hardware Conflict Troubleshooter working? Do I need three disk controllers? Can any of them be safely deleted? Could I simply delete the Intel conrtrololer that is causing the resource conflict problem? Thanks |

FWIW, mine was at about 60% a few minutes ago when I shut things down and checked. I think that's probably normal. Gotta keep the electric company happy! Disk - Resource Conflict
Processor usage data in Windows 9x is unreliable and I wouldn't pay much
attention to it. You can boot to safe mode and delete the non-functional controller device. -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (DTS) "George S" wrote in message ... System: IBM Thinkpad 600, running WIN 98SE.
