Default free firewall that supports Win98SE?

Now that Zone Alarm no longer supports Win98SE what should I be doing
about my wife's machine upstairs (behind an ethernet wired router with a
NATS firewall) - At the moment it has ZA free version but that won't
update any more.

Can anyone recommend a free firewall that still supports Win98se and is
relatively straightforward to install and configure and use? (ie. no
harder than ZA free version which I like a lot)

Many thanks.

If ZA worked for you - what's stopped it working?
Has it suddenly started letting everything through? - I somehow doubt it!
Why not stick with what you know and works? - Firewalls do NOT need updating
very often (contrary to what ZA like to tell everyone!)

Well exactly - that's why I'm asking!

Besides which - you're running Win98 behind a NAT router - you do NOT need a
software firewall at all!

Sure? Will the NATS prevent unauthorised outgoing traffic from a trojan
or other unauthorised program that my wife mistakenly downloads and
installs?

No - but then it's up to your AV to prevent it getting that far (and up to
either your wife or yourself to ensure that it never gets as far as the
AV!!)

NOTHING will prevent an untrained user getting infected - training and
education is worth more than any amount of prophylaxis!

Train your wife(and anyone else!)
NOT to open unexpected emails
NOT to click 'Yes' or 'OK' without knowing EXACTLY what they're agreeing to!
NOT to click on that interesting pic of scantily clad males/females just
because 'it looks interesting'
NOT to open attachments in emails, unless they are 1) from known reputable
sources and 2) expected!

ALWAYS to
save downloaded files to disk, and scan them using UP TO DATE virus scanners
before opening them
check that they really are at the site they think they are at
THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK! - Clunk/Click doesn't wash, on the Internet - it's
THINK....and then maybe Click (and if you're not sure, DON'T click!)

ZA will only alert you (in the case you're talking about) AFTER you're 'a
little bit pregnant' ... and you of all people should understand the
consequences of that!
Education stops that problem before it starts - and costs nothing but time.
Take the Time - Put the effort in, and the judgement will come! (sorry - I
couldn't resist it! )

You should copyright that.
At the moment I'm still training other family members to operate the
on/off switch.
