Default Resource Kit Updates?

Were there updates to the tools in the Win98 Resource Kit?
Where can I get them?
What happened to the MS Press Resource kit support site?

Sorry nobody managed to answer you previous, Abraham. I was hoping =
someone else had more specific suggestions. All I can suggest are the =
following:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/its...s/rktmain.mspx

http://search.microsoft.com/search/r...&p=3D2&c=3D10=
&st=3Db&qu=3DResource+Kit+Support&na=3D31&cm=3D 512

As far as I can recall, there were no specific updates to the Win98 =
ResKit tools, but if there were, they were doe on an individual basis. =
If you could be more specific in what you are looking for, I might be =
able to help more. I don't recall any ResKit for Windows ME, either. =
ResKits for Windows 2000 and XP wouldn't probably be appropriate, but in =
some cases might have a tool that could be applied to Win9x systems.

It makes me wonder if Microsoft skipped the resource kit on Windows ME
because it was a failure. I mean by taking away easy access to MS-DOS and
the ability to boot up into MS-DOS mode easily then why would users even
want to use it unless of course it had slightly better drivers and some
other small improvements. For these reasons and others, I like 98SE much
better and I highly doubt that ME could run some of my old MS-DOS games that
98SE runs so well. Gary Terhune, I tried running KQ IV by Sierra on 98SE
and it works flawlessly and this same game I tried running on XP Pro. in
compatibility mode and guess what it does run but there is no sound and my
sound card is working fine in both operating systems. I have run into other
cases where older games have choked on XP Pro. and as well as being used to
many of the features of 98SE I like the ability of easily getting into DOS
and doing some serious work or serious damage if one is not careful. I
still hope that I can convince Microsoft on the "Classics" line issue in
where they keep updating 98SE but they gear it towards those that need it
for older games and other reasons. (aside: It is probably all my fantasy
and I am living in unreality about 98SE Classics line but still it is fun to
do and sometimes even huge dreams can come true and even if they don't I
will not be too disappointed because I will treasure it as a valuable life
lesson and seeing it as nothing ventured nothing gained) LOL (no wonder
people call me an optimistic person)

Wow, thanks Hugh Candlin! I had no idea something like this existed.
Perhaps now I can run KQ IV in XP Pro. with sound. Thanks again and I
really appreciate your help. BTW, any idea if the producer will ever
release a final version or would I get stuck with the Beta version? I will
have to poke around the site for more information but this may do the trick.
I will post back and let you know how it is going. :

I works with a lot more than that one title.

Once they shake-and-bake the bugs, there will be a final version.
Whether it will be freeware, shareware, or commercial, I cannot say.

I will
have to poke around the site for more information but this may do the

trick.

It is relatively simple. It integrates with Windows. Usage is a simple
matter
of locating the DOS executable, right-click it and select "Run withVDMS".

Yes there were some updates such as this one, however you'll not get them
from Microsoft. You'll need to find the original author of the utility and
see if they are updating it.

Also there exists a security vulnerability in the 'Taskpads feature',
found in both the Win98RK Sampler that's on the Win98 CDs and the full
Win98RK.

See Security Bulletin ms99-007 and KnowledgeBase article Q218619:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms99-007.mspx
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=218619

But unfortunately M$ have run out of harddiskspace, 'bandwidth' or
something, because for some reason they no longer seems to have the
means to have the patch available for you to download so that you can
make their software secure.

That's funny, I can download the patch for Windows 98 just fine.
