Default Availabilty of windows 98 cd image?

I recently formatted a computer that was heavily virus infected and more
trouble then it was worth to try and repair it, so I just went to clean
reinstall. The hd is now formatted, but after hours of searching I have only
been able to lay my hands on my win98 boot disk, my win 98se serial code, but
no windows 98 cd. I have moved two times since this computer was purchased
and apparently the cd has decided to dissappear.

Does anyone know where I can get an image of a windows 98 install cd that I
can burn to a cd and install using my serial code?

US customers may try Microsoft at: 1 800 642-7676.

They will want to verify some of the information and may charge a shipping
and handling fee.

Yeah it's the may verify some of this information that worries me, Because
this is at least a 6 year old purchase, doubt I have much info besides the cd
key.

No COA sticker on the box?

FYI, it's illegal to do what you suggest someone here do. If you can't get MS to
send you a new one, buy an OEM version of 98SE online at eBay or similar.

Only illegal since MS refuses to use the distrubution system that 90% of
software uses. (i.e. digital download with keycode/serial to unlock) I can
only assume it's some irrational fear that it will lead to global piracy of
windows, when in fact most people who want a copy of it without paying can
get it regardless. /sigh

I checked a few websites and 98se was running 50$+ and frankly it's not
worrth it. Maybe I can teach my family to use linux.

I think 98SE is a great operating system and $50 doesn't sound too expensive
to me especially for the backwards-compatibility, great software library,
and ability to use most computer hardware. I hope Linux will work out for
you.
