Default swap file

I have a pentium3 800mb with 126mb/10gb. I have just set-
up a 3gb partition and installed WinME, and few
applications so far - antivirus, antispam, BTbroadband,
partiton magic and MSWord. I am getting warning messages
that I have insufficient hard disk space. On checking what
is filling up the disk I find that file
C:\Windows\Win386.swp is 1.8gb in size. This is presumably
the swap file - why is it so large and how can I set the
max size of this?

You need to reboot to DOS using a floppy boot, and delete the WIN386.SWP
file - with any luck it won't rebuild itself to any such size again.
What caused it? - Sh%t happens!
Can you prevent it happening again? - probably not, but it very unlikely to
happen in any case, if you shut down the PC properly (IIRC, the main cause
of a corrupted swapfile is shutting down the PC from the plug, rather than
the Start menu)
