Device manager entry
Hi,
I recently upgraded my PC by changing the motherboard and the CPU. I inserted the old hard drive which had Windows 98 SE on it and everything pretty much worked like a dream Windows loaded all the drivers OK - that is except 1. In the device manager I have a question mark against a device described as "PCI Universal Serial Bus" - which sounds pretty important to me! I have, of course tried reinstaling the mobo drivers and tried windows update but no joy. Everything seems to be working OK but I can't help feeling it ought to be installed. Can anyone tell me what this is and how I could install the driver for it. BTW the new chip is an Athlon 3000+ 754socket mobo is Asus K8V-X-SE Thanks in advance Phill |

"Universal Serial Bus" = USB a way to attach external devices, usually via a
connector that is ~5/8" wide by 3/16" thick. If the USB ports involved are "onboard" -- part of the motherboard -- then you need to find the drivers from the motherboard manufacturer. If it's a plug-in PCI card, then you need to identify it and go to the manufacturer for the drivers. -- Gary S. Gary,
You were quite right the driver was available on the manufacturer's CD. Somehow I missed it when installing the other mobo drivers as they were all listed separately. Slightly embarassing but at least it's working now. Thanks Phill "Gary S. The trick is remembering the lesson -- which for those of us who are memory
challenged simply means that we have to re-learn the lesson more often, eg. -- Gary S. Terhune MS MVP Shell/User "Frank Saunders, MS MVP-OE" wrote in message ... "Gary S.
