Clogged Arteries???
Nope. It's the actual folder. Checked its properties many times. Plus, no
"black/white arrow" on the icon, as typically seen on shortcuts. Just 9-plus GB of essential stuff. Can I safely move it? Thanks. Joe Starin (also from Ohio, BTW) "kbsmith9" wrote in message ... I see that my entire My Documents folder is on the desktop of my ME Dell. Not a shortcut, but all 9.8GB of it. Can I just move the folder somewhere, and where? Or will this monster folder cause problems if I move it -- or attempt to move it. Will other apps have trouble finding it? It's a shared folder (wireless network) if that's an issue. Thanks for any advice. Joe Starin "kbsmith9" wrote in message ... Thanks for the replies. I suppose it's proper to go to the last post to answer. Of course this is for all. I dragged all my photo folders into my documents and also some folders with installation programs. Most of whats left are shortcuts of a few kb. I also noticed that for a few days that when I opened IE, I saw "detecting proxy settings" in the lower left corner. I went to IE properties, lan settings and unchecked automatic. I think I clicked that on a "page can not be displayed" window last week. My documents folder now has 1.7 Gig. Will be checking back for any additional input. Seems a little better. Joe
The My Documents Folder on the Desktop doesn't have the 'Shortcut arrow overlay'. If you right-click the icon, Properties, is there a 'Target' tab? Is there a 'Find target' button? If yes, I think you will find this is a shortcut to the folder. George Gee "Joe Starin" wrote in message . net... Nope. It's the actual folder. Checked its properties many times. Clogged Arteries???
George: Yes, there's a 'Target' tab when I right-click 'My Documents.,' then
click 'Properties.' And, yes there's a 'find target' button, and when I click it, it takes me to a 'My Documents' folder on the C drive. So I guess the 'My Doc' icon on my desktop is, in fact, a shortcut, even thought it doesn't look like a typical shortcut? I stand corrected. No need to move that desktop 'My Docs' icon. Joe,
Mine does not have the typical 'shortcut' arrow, either. However, the Properties WILL show the Target path and designate it as a shortcut. Heirloom, old and didn't win the Lotto.....rrrrrrrrrr. And not to labour the point, but rather - for completeness:-
If you do try/wish to delete the 'My Documents' icon from your desktop, you will be advised that "The contents of the folder will not be deleted" and "You can restore the icon to the desktop using the Folder Options control panel."
