Default Rebuild / Re-install Outlook Express 6

Hi
Does anybody know how to rebuild or reinstall Outlook Express 6 and Internet
Explorer 6 ?

I am running Win 98 SE with all the current updates / fixes and I had a
problem with my machine the other day and what ended up happening was that I
had my entire Programs Folder completely deleted off the machine.

All of the registry settings and everything else is still intact for
everything , the only thing missing is the Programs Folder.

I don't really want to re-install Win 98 because I would have to re-install
every driver and network settings.

So far I have rebuilt all the Programs Folder but I am stuffed if I can get
OE working.
I tried to reinstall IE and OE and I get the message that it's already
installed and bails out of the installation.
I have got IE working , but it's not really the right way of doing it and I
need to re-install both OE and IE.
I have even tried to import OE from my other machine and placed it in the
rebuilt Programs folder , everything is there , but when I go to start it up
I get either one of these error message of :

"Outlook Express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be located"

"Outlook Express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be
initialised"
This MSOE.DLL is an imported one from my other machine and it exists in the
Outlook Express folder , so it's there.

I have also tried to re-associate the *.dll files as it says on the MS web
site by running the commands from the Runbox of :
msimn /reg
regsv132 urlmon.dll
regsv132 mshtml.dll
regsv132 shdocvw.dll
regsv132 browseui.dll
regsv132.msjave.dll

All these commands work without any error or problems.

So can anybody come up with any ideas of how to re-install OE and IE besides
doing a full re-install ?

Thanks.

If this problem is less than 5 boot days old try restoring the registry
to a date prior to the problem.

Start the machine and immediately press/hold down the ctrl key or
continually tap F8 until you get the startup menu.
Select DOS prompt only from the startup menu.
At the prompt type and press Enter:

scanreg /restore *Note the space after /

Select a date prior to the problem to restore and follow the prompts.

Exactly what Programs folder are you referring to?

The Start Menu Programs folder as seen when you click the Start button, or the
"C:\Program Files" folder?

If it's the Program Files folder, I don't know if restoring the registry is
going to help him too much! (Otherwise, that idea sounds good to me too).

I have tried that and it's doesn't work , because the entire C:\ Programs
Folder was deleted off the HDD, all of the registry settings and links are
there , but there is no programs in the C:\Programs Folder for the registry
settings to link to.

The entire C:\Programs Files folder was deleted off the HDD , I have
restored most of the programs back into that folder , but I can't find a way
of restoring OE or IE , what I need to do is to re-install or repair OE and
IE.

I have tried what you have suggested and I am unable to repair IE , I get
the message :
"Internet Explorer 6 could not be repaired"
"Please run setup again to reinstall all components"

I am not sure if I would like to try and run setup again , because it might
remove all of the new systems updates and revert back to the original Win 98
SE files.

Well, then... just stick with the damaged installation.

And from your other posts, it seems to me you will need a clean
reinstallation of Windows.

Good luck (you will need it).
