Default Setup Win98 fron Startup Disk and CD?

I have a PC that I need to setup Win98 from scratch. I have a older Win98
Startup floopy and Win98 CD. The PC boots to the "Disk I/O error, replace
disk and hit any key", without startup floopy. When I insert startup floopy,
everything goes fine to the A:\ prompt then I'm lost. What do I do next or
where can I print a step-by-step on what to do next. Thanks...

Choose to start with CD support

A:\ CD E:
setup

That assumes you have one hard drive and one CD drive which is
normally D:. Since a RAM drive is created when booting with CD
support, the drive letter of the CD drive is bumped up one letter.
You are changing to that drive then running the setup program that is
on it.

I seem to keep getting "Invalid Disk Specification" now. I tried the cd E:
and cd D: from the A:\ promt, with floopy in drive and CD in the CDROM
drive. What now?

You were given wrong commands
(CD means Change Directory within the logged drive.)

From the A: prompt to go to drive X just key
X:
i.e. X then colon without any space

Then key DIR to get a directory of that drive
When you see it includes SETUP.EXE you
know you are logged to the correct drive.
Then just key
SETUP.EXE
and you are away to the races (so long as you
have the Product Key handy.)

Putting Win on a blank HD
Start the PC with a boot floppy
at the A prompt type this in.

MD C:\Win98 enter
Copy E:\win98 C:\win98 enter
Remove the floppy and type in
C:\win98\setup: enter

OR
Put your start up floppy
in and turn your pc on,
select start with cd-rom
support, now at the A prompt
look just above it for your
cd-rom letter if it was D
it will be E. What you need
after that will look like this.

A:\e: Hit enter
E:\setup: Hit enter

Now you should be able to just
follow the dirrections, sit back
and let Windows do the work.
Make sure you have your Product
Key Code.

Sorry about that, Phillipson is right, gave you the wrong
command...mind and fingers not coordinated. Should have been:

A:\ E:
setup

Looks like the E: CDROM drive can not be found. I get "Device driver not
found 'MSCD001'. No valid CDROM device selected. What next? Thanks...

When you boot with the floppy boot disk you should have an option to
"start with CD support". You *have* to select that option so that the
CD driver will be loaded...you can't use a CD drive without it.

Yes, I selected the W/CD spt. Maybe I need to make a new boot floopy from
bootdisk.com? At the A: prompt, I inter D: (enter) then at the D: prompt, I
enter "Dir", but the setup.exe is not listed. The E: and F: prompt says
invalid disk specification.
