Default Spyware

Does anyone have any opinions on what the best free
spyware/adware killer programs are?

No one application is sufficient. Those to use include AdAware SE, SpyBot
Search & Destroy, BHODemon, CWShredder and HiJackThis together with
Spyware Blaster as a preventative.

I concur with Mike M, and can also highly recommend Webroot's Spy Sweeper
for an "active" anti-infection tool.
It removed over two dozen pests overlooked by Ad-aware and Spybot on a
particularly infected machine recently.
It killed some esp. pesky ad web-servers, whose "tickler" files I never did
locate.

I also successfully use Pest Patrol, but it's updating process is very slow
using dial-up. Good tool, however.

Another interesting link:

"Some anti-spyware companies use confusing ads, and our tests show their =
$20-$60 products are less effective than free competitors."
