Backup usage #1
I regularly back up my data to CD. It seems obvious (and
Help | Emergency Recovery recommeds to back up the Backup Catalogs as well. Although I can locate them easily in Windows Explorer, the backup program cannot find them. That is, on selecting files/folders to back up, nothing is visible in the Catalogs folder. (And, in fact, if the folder is backed up anyway, they do not exist in a view of the restore info.) How are the catalogs backed up? Thanks. |

Bravo, glad to see someone is at least trying to do some preventative
measure for catastrophy. The catalog files are particular to the backup done at the time. These are not accurate until the backup is completed. These are used as part of restoration in the windows environment. There is an asset in backup to create a catalogue from a backup on the media. That is what's used for recovery in the event of catastrophy. Catalog associated files are not backed up. "Abby Sale" wrote in message ... I regularly back up my data to CD. THanks for the response
-----Original Message----- Bravo, glad to see someone is at least trying to do some preventative measure for catastrophy. The catalog files are particular to the backup done at the time. These are not accurate until the backup is completed. These are used as part of restoration in the windows environment. Hmmm. I can see that. But they'd be handy to have. What I've done is zip & copy 'em to the CD. But it's an extra step. There is an asset in backup to create a catalogue from a backup on the media. That is what's used for recovery in the event of catastrophy. If I understand you, MS Backup (Win 98) _will_ recreate a missing catalog direct from the backed up file on CD (or Zip.) I don't see how to do that. If I point the restore wizard at an old backup file, it does examine the file but then claims "The current media does not contain any backup sets." Catalog associated files are not backed up. "Abby Sale" wrote in message ... I regularly back up my data to CD.
