Default Vxd's and blk screens of death.

Hello all. I recently did a format and install of win98se. As the install
went well, upon installing drivers,(Ati, creative,Dlink) i recieved an error
message stating that windows has a VXD problem and I need to run win setup
utility again. This was on a black screen after which when told to press any
key it turned off. Upon reboot, all hell broke loose. It rebooted 3 times and
then came on without all the previously installed drivers. Almost like safe
mode. From there i went to add remove programs and all software that was
installed was not there to uninstall. The only thing that was there is what
was installed after the reboot which was Sympatico's access manager. That was
it. Now the computer is booting 8 outta 10 times with no errors, but when the
errors come, man do they come, from blue screens to 3 or 4 reboots to the
same black screen I have mentioned in the beginning. I am running AVG A/V, on
a standalone comp(usually behind a firewall). I have spoke to techs and they
have heard of VXD errors but nothing like what is happening here. I know the
explanation is long so thanks for making to the end here and any info would
be greatly appreciated.......
Thanks
