Default transfer files between ME & XP

I have just purchased a new computer with XP. Old one
has ME, how do I transfer files with a parallel direct
cable with only my new computer that has DSL

You don't... some programs can use the parallel cable to share files but
it's a *crossover* cable not a direct cable.

installing the old system's hard drive on the new computer temporarily
will help you to move files over.

Or getting network cards for both machines.
