KERNEL32.dll errors

Please help! "Stmgr has caused an error in KERNEL32.dll
Stmgr will now close. If this problem persists, please
restart your computer"

What is going on? This is not the only program that causes
problems with KERNEL32.dll and I also have some problems
with Wintrust.dll too.

I have scanned with Norton, but no virus there. Another
problem is when trying to run Disc Defragmenter, I keep
getting the message "Drive contents have changed. Do you
wish to restart" and then finally, "...has restarted 5
times blah blah blah Please close all programs running and
start again" only I'm not running anything!

If you are seeing errors involving stmgr and wintrust then this is usually the
sign of there being something very wrong with Win Me's handling of digital
certificates and the like and the only fix that has been reported is to clean
reinstall the operating system.

Incidentally having Norton or any other malware marketed by Symantec installed
on the system is heavily implicated with such problems.
