Windows no longer open in the closed size ? !
How do I, or what do I, change so that a window of an application opens
in the same size it closed in? I close Internet Explorer full screen, then next time it opens, it comes up small. Very irritating. How to change back to the way it used to work? - Robert - |

Explorer isn't too well behaved when it comes to its "state", but will remember it's size and position if it isn't maximized and is just resized to fill the screen. |

Thank you for the suggestion, didn't think of that. Assume you mean,
using the "minimal" state, resize to fill the screen, then either way it starts out pretty much large? Unfortunately, got used to doing side by side comparison things with IE6 and need the windows sometimes to be half screen and sometimes full screen. Especially because IE6 seems to be permanently linked to opening .jpg files. The problem really surfaced after viewing some very large .jpg photos. approx 1.4MB each. After viewing those, IE6 has just not been the same. Hanging the system. and I mean hanging. ctrl-alt-del barely brings it back. - Robert - |

IE is not suitable for viewing images. Use this instead. It will allow you
to manage the default association for those JPG files. http://www.irfanview.com/ -- Jeff Richards MS MVP (Windows - Shell/User) "Robert A. Macy" wrote in message oups.com... Jeff,
You're right about the appropriateness of IE viewing images. Presently, I am simultaneously on three or four websites, then click an image and ZAP! lose one of the websites as an IE is assigned the stupid image. Very disagreeable feature MS put in there. Sometimes cannot get back to the "exact" website and have to reconstruct, taking an hour or so. Really, really hate that feature of IE. Thank you for the URL. I like that IRFANVIEW does not insinuate itself onto the system. Just is there, no reboot after installing. IRFANVIEW is a very powerful/handy viewer. I wonder if it's possible to change gamma, or contrast, or brightness to look around some of the dark images. Great features: 1) fast presentation 2) shows thumbnail of highlighted filename, or thumbnails of all images in the folder 3) has arrows to click on to advance through image files in the folder/or to retreat 4) pretty easy to put together a slide show, except... It has some quirks, too. I could not find any 'previous' key to go back to the immediately preceding image. Had to go directly to it. When I double click on a super large image, it shows only the partial image. Have to manually reduce to full view, by a series of clicking. It is true that in 'slide show' the image comes up full screen, but the smaller images that I would like to have full screen, albeit blurry, don't come up full size. Just come up quarter screen etc. In other words, couldn't find any 'default to full screen view' selection. The upshot is THANK YOU for this new viewer. At less than 1MB, it's impressive. - Robert - |

Do not use the maximize button up in the right corner, but rather drag your window edges to the size
you want. Then when you close the window of that application, it will remember the size and reopen to that size. Another trick is to hold the Ctrl key down when you click on the X button to close the window. This also locks in the windows size. These tricks work for all applications, including IE, word processors, your new email, your open email, etc. "Hugh Candlin" wrote in message ... : : "Robert A.
