Windows Media Internal Error
I recently re-installed Windows 98. The version is the orginal one that comes with 98. I even installed Media player version 9 but when I started getting the error msg below, I uninstalled it back to the original version. Now when I click on opening Windows Media player, I get the following error msg: Windows Media Player: An internal application error has occurred. I don't understand why I am getting this message. Does anyone know what this means and how to resolve it. Thanks. TW |

Windows Media Internal Error
If you are running the original version of Windows 98,
Media Player 9 does not work. I had the same problem however, when I tried upgrading from Win98 to Win98 Second Edition. I get the same message, "An internal application error has occurred." when I try to install Media Player 9. To get it back to version 7.1, I had to download the version 7.1 installation program, install it, uninstall it (at this point, version 6.4 came to life), and then reinstall 7.1. However, any attempts to load version 9 result in the same error, so I'm really no better off now than I was before. Many other things went wrong with the upgrade from Win98 to Win98 SE. I suspect that Windows reverted to an old version of the registry, as I had to reinstall many updates, including restoring Internet Explorer and Outlook Express back to version 6 (they were "demoted" to version 5 during the upgrade). Anyway, can anybody tell me/us how to fix the problem of being unable to load Media Player version 9? -----Original Message----- I recently re-installed Windows 98. I certainly can't tell you, but I appreciate hearing about your difficulties moving from win98FE to SE. Thank you. I will go even slower because of your letter. That is, I have bought a new hd, adn I'm going to copy over my current HD to it, and then update to SE, and if I have too many problems, I'll just recopy the drives. or something like that. As to IE reverting, I was having problems with my sound, which seemed to have started when I went to IE 5.5, so I used Uninstall Programs to revert to the previous version of IE, which I thought would be IE5. However even though that was MY previous version, it gave me version 4! (I continued using Netscape for most stuff, and not too long thereafter came IE6 and NS7.) -----Original Message----- I recently re-installed Windows 98.
