Permissions problem--98SE to XP Home SP2
I have a Win XP Home SP2 computer networked to a Win 98 SE through an
ActionTec DSL router. When I first installed the network over a year ago, I followed the prompts and everything worked fine. Somehow over the past several months, the Win 98 box lost its ability to access a new share on the XP box; a share that I set up initially still works, but an attempt to share a folder now results in the "//$XPcomputer is not accessible. No permission to access resource." message, even though I have sharing enabled on the folder on the XP computer. I can see the XP box in Network Neigborhood on the 98 box. I've set up the exact same logon and password on both computers (it's an Administrator account on the XP computer). The primary network logon for the 98 box is 'Client for Microsoft Networks". The XP computer has no problem accessing shared folders on the 98 box. As I mentioned, some time ago I set up a drive mapping on the 98 box to a folder on the XP computer, and this mapping is still good at bootup, so somehow the 98 box has permission to do at least this. I'd appreciate any suggestions... Peter L. Reader, posting from sunny Portland, Oregon --------------- |
