PC hang at bootup
I have WinME on a Sony laptop. A net telephony s/w (Skype)
meant for Win2000 & XP was accidentally installed on the laptop this morning, with the option 'start skype on PC startup' checked. It appears that the PC hangs whilst attempting to start skype. Is there a way out of this? Many thanks in advance. |

Try booting to Safe Mode and uninstalling Skype.

Thanks for the response Mike.
Excuse my ignorance - could you please list the steps in the suggested approach? Many thanks again. -----Original Message----- Try booting to Safe Mode and uninstalling Skype. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Sushir wrote: I have WinME on a Sony laptop. Boot to Safe Mode:
Do this by rebooting and gently tapping Ctrl immediately following the white text on black POST screen. If that doesn't take you to Safe Mode (it should) then repeat but instead of tapping Ctrl instead tap F8. Once you have booted use Add/Remove Programs to remove Skype. Reboot. If this now allows you to boot into normal mode, all well and good. If not, boot again into Safe Mode but this time use System Restore to roll the system back to before Skype was installed. Please post back how you get on. If you still have problems there are a couple of other avenues to try. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Sushir wrote: Thanks for the response Mike.
