52MAXX CD-RW only detected as CD by Win98 SE

I have Windows 98 SE and it only see my Memorex 52MAXX
2452AJ (cd-RW) made March 2003 as a regular CDROM. I have
searched all over for a driver so this will work, any
suggestions

What type of dive is that ?

Since Win98 doesn't, in itself, support CD or DVD burners, they all show up as
"standard CD-rom." Your burner software, such as Nero or RecordNow or various
others will make it work. Win98 will be able to read what you put in it (with
exceptions). I have a CD-rom drive, plus a DVD burner, and they both show up as
"standard CD-rom," and the burner burns CD's or DVD's just fine.

The label on the top of the CD-RW says Memorex Model
52MAXX 2452AJ. It also says Mar 2003 manufacture date.

When I installed Roxio Creator Basic v 5.0.1 it said it
did not find any supported devises.

You are right, even though it refers to it as just a
standard CD Rom in device manager and the Roxio software
said it didnt detect a device, I opened the the CD Creator
software and it burned a disk just fine. Thanks.

make sure you go to the roxio web site and install the latest updates, usually
then the drive will show up, it has something to do with the signatures of the
drive types, ther is a "driveup.exe" file for 5.01, the version bundled with
the cdrw is probably just older than the hardware
