Outlook Express
Lately, I've been having a annoying problem with my
Outlook Express. I receive many unimportant E-Mail that I receive from companys where I visited their Web Sites or had signed up for something. I don't even bother responding to them, and just delete them so I don't get more mailings from them. But lately, when I highlight the E-Mail and try to delete it, my computers screen blanks out, goes to the Blue screen and has an error message. From there it tells me to hit "Enter" which never works or "Control/Alt/Del to reboot the computer. Sometimes that doesn't work either. The computer locks up and I have to shut it down manually and then start it back up. I had called Tech support where I bought my computer and he say's there might be a problem with the program and try reloading Outlook Express. And from I can tell, to download Outlook Express, I have to down load Internet Explorer. I'll just wait and see if someone has an answer and deal with rebooting for now. Sincerely Yours, Stumped Again |

Your problems could be caused by a number of things - let's try the easy ones first g Open OE, click Files, Work Offline (make sure it's checked!) Highlight 'Outlook Express' in the Folders view Files|Folder|Compact All Folders - wait a while for this to complete. and report back with any error messages. If that doesn't help, then try this Tools|Options|Maintenance - click on 'Store Folder...' Make a note of the location of your OE data store. Close OE Open Windows Explorer, and navigate to the OE data Store How big are the files there? - just the largest one? Rename the Folders.dbx file to Folders.jnk Open OE, and see if it works now (you'll have lost any folder organisation you had, unfortunately, but can rebuild that easily enough) - if not, then close OE, delete the new Folders.dbx, and rename the old one back to .dbx Repeat the above for Inbox.dbx and Deleted Items.dbx, and see if any of them do the trick. Outlook Express
I first tried going into Outlook Express to
File/Folder/Compact All Folders and did not have any error messages. What does this step actually do to the Folders? I assume it compacts the E-Mail messages. I also went into OE data store. The biggest file is 3.32MB which is In-Box messages. Thats as far as I went. I was unclear about the renaming procedure. Do I rename all those files in OE data store or just the ones you mentioned like Folders.dbx. When you rename those files to Folders.jnk, what does that do.!??! Thank you for your help.!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Mike Your problems could be caused by a number of things - let's try the easy ones first g Open OE, click Files, Work Offline (make sure it's checked!) Outlook Express
JUST rename the Folders.dbx file like I said.
that will force OE to rebuild a new file on re-opening - if it doesn't cure the problem, then simply delete the new folders.dbx, and rename the old one back ditto for Deleted files.dbx and for Inbox.dbx leave the rest alone! - they contain the data in the folders in your OE view. -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2004, Win9x) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/millsrpch.htm Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's or http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/f.../Mar27pmvp.asp "Mike Vick" wrote in message ...
