I am on my second Me computer (desk and lap top) which
appear to have encountered the same problem. Computer
appears to be running a task, but fails to respond.
Ctrl+Alt+Del reveals Msgsvr32 not responding. Taking end
task results in the screen reverting to a screen saver
picture, and the system then completely hangs. Can be re-
booted, but that's the only way out. I can't find help on
the troubleshooter site. Article 169987 seems to describe
the problem (except it does not always occur when
computer is idle), but refers to Win 95. The suggested
solutions are not applicabel to Me.

any suggestions?

Has this problem always happened, if not what changes, hardware, drivers and
applications, did you make to your system in the session prior to this problem
starting? If only a recent problem have you considered using system restore
to roll your system back to the state it was in before the problem started?

Yes, relatively recent. The home PC which had it was
replaced, since I could not solve the issue and the
machine was 3 years old anyway so - time to change.

The lap top is still fine, except has now developed the
same issue. There is no way the same software load was
placed on each. I tried reverting the Me by doing a
complete reload from scratch, but within a couple of
software installs, it came back. I also rotated the
software installs but could not get any pattern of which
software was causing the problem.

Some of the MS help stuff seems to suggest similar
sounding issues could be related to power mangement
settings, but I don't see any ability to change anything
which I could resolve the problem with.

Thanks for replying.
