Default help extracting the product key

There is something wrong with my older system, and I'm at the point
where it's easier to reinstall the OS than try to figure out how to fix
it. Unfortunely, I've looked all over and can't find the cover thing
that has the product key code on it. I remember there was a way to get
into the registry and extract it with regedit, but it's been years since
I've had to do this, can somebody either point me to a website or list
the procedure again?

Thanks, now I'll just cross my fingers and hope the number it gave me
works after I wipe the OS from the Dell and start to reinstall.

You can use any legit win-98 product key.

They are all over the web. You don't have to use your original key.
