Default error coping files to 30 pin floppy drive

Someone gave me their old computer with win98 on it. The "A"
drive was physically destroyed (he said a floppy got stuck
in it). The "A" drive came with a 40 pin connector (optioned as
a slave with the hdrive the master). Not able to find a 40 pin
drive I found a couple 30 pin drives at a local swap meet. I
installed the drive, connected it to the floppy controller on
the mb and turned on the floppy in the bios. Using Win Explorer
I can see the files on the floppy and I can access them. But when
I try to copy a file to the floppy I get this error:
"error coping file"
cannot copy xxx.txt. the disk is write-protected
remove the write protection or use another disk
It also fails when I try to format a floppy.

I compaired the floppy drivers with my own computer with win98,
which came with a 30 pin floppy and they are the same, date
and size. The floppy drives that I got at the swap meet are good,
I swapped them with my computer and they work.

Any help or ideas will be appreciated to solve this problem.

Go into the BIOS setup and make sure it is set up as a 3.5 inch
1.44 Mb drive. Be sure to save any changes when exiting.
If you have already done this, see if the drive works normally
after restarting in MS-DOS mode.

Thanks Ben and Almostbob for your help. I
found the problem. I went back into the bios and
under "floppy opitions" ,the "floppy write protect" was
enabled. I though I understood what it ment, I know
what it means now. I changed it to disable and now
the A drive is working like it should.
