Unable to connect to Hardwired Lan with Win98 SE
MEB,
On the Firefox Proxy settings, do I need to leave No Proxy for: localhost, 127.0.0.1? I got NoScript installed on Firefox. I had it installed on my laptop, but disabled it because it popped up constantly. Maybe I should revisit that decision. My Internet Explorer is Version 5.00.2614.3500. Perhaps that is why the Microsoft Updates didn't work? I found on the General Forum a link to IE6. It says it is compatible with Win 98 so is that the version I should download? After I get a compatible Internet Explorer, I'll try again on the Microsoft Updates. What does mdgx.com/hosts.htm do? You referred to it as a HOSTS file. Do I need all 3 Avast providers? Web Shield, Standard Shield and Internet Mail are the ones I have active. In my Add/Remove Programs I show Adobe Flash Player ActiveX, but not Flash 9 or Sun Java. So I'll find those and get them downloaded as well. Thank you so much for your help! I would NEVER leave a computer that children use unprotected. | | In my Add/Remove Programs I show Adobe Flash Player ActiveX, but not Flash 9 | or Sun Java. So I'll find those and get them downloaded as well. Make sure to uninstall the old Flash before installing the new. You will likely need Adobe Shockwave as well. You will need to look for the last versions for these which work with 98, as the new versions will not install. http://www.adobe.com/products/flashp...fo/systemreqs/ http://www.adobe.com/products/shockw...fo/systemreqs/ Version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0.16) SUN JAVA Make sure you use the Control Panel JAVA setup and disallow most of the JAVA activities. | | Thank you so much for your help! | Martha Your welcome, we should be done if you've looked at all the pages/links I've supplied and made the updates, installations, and changes.
